What to do?

I went to my daughter's elementary school today, and the secretary asked me if I wanted to sign a petition to get rid of Daylight Saving Time. The first page was half full of names of people who'd already signed. I read through the list and realized I knew many of those people.
I thought about if for a minute—feeling the pressure of wanting to do what other people I respect do—and then I declined. I like Daylight Saving Time. I love that my summer nights are light until ten o'clock. And I don't mind getting up a bit earlier, because hey, the sun wakes me up anyway.
Daylight Saving brings back wonderful memories for me. Maybe that's why I don't want it to go away. I like it, because I've always known it.

That makes me sit back and take a look at everything else in my life. Do I do the things I do because I've always done them? Because it's easier that way? Because it's habit? Possibly. I am a creature of habit and I don't love change . . . except each fall when I get to sleep in for that extra wonderful hour.
When that happens, fall feels complete—the leaves smell sweeter, the air feels crisper, and Halloween is more fun. What I don't like is that they changed when day light savings happens. They've pushed it back—deeper into fall, and later into the spring.
I liked it the way it was. I want it put back. I like going trick-or-treating in the light with my little kids. I like the brilliantly lit sunsets that last all evening. They takes away the gloom of winter for me.
    So what do you think?
Do you want daylight savings to disappear altogether, or do you like it the way it is? The only reason I'd want to do away with it would be for my kids, who stand out on the highway to wait for the school bus in the morning. But if we're going to be honest here, it's dark that early no matter what time the clock reads.
But that's a whole 'nother subject.

Do they want to get rid of electricity, too?
I like sleeping in an hour later in the fall.
Okay, so I lose an hour in the spring.
But, it's spring! And good to be awake.
Plus, at my age, blissful fortune to be awake.

I have to admit I do like it when the clocks go back - they always do near to winter when I could really do with an hour's extra sleep!

I don't really mind it going forwards and hour - it happens in spring and near enough summer so that's ok with me!

Take care

I don't see how they could get rid of it. Isn't it to do with the alignment of seasons, the spring equinox or something? Not that I really know...

Anyway, I agree with the others, the best thing about it is when you get an extra hour in bed. Can't beat that!

I'd just like more sunlight...period.

I guess I'll have to take that one up with God. Haha :)

I don't really mind either way, I guess. But you're right, its important to take stock and make sure we don't just do things because others are.

I like it too, but my husband thinks it's a huge conspiracy to ruin America LOL. Apparently in Arizona they don't have it at all, so I guess states do have the option of saying no.

I like daylight saving time, look forward to that extra hour of sleep, enjoy those lingering sunsets. The first commenter was right - hey, let's get rid of electricity - we can use candles, LOL.

I like daylight savings. This posts reminds me of an article I read about how some scientist people are voting on whether or not to eliminate the leap second.

Apparently, every so often we have to have a leap second to keep earth's orbit in line with time. If they do away with the leap second, then in like 2000 years, when the clock reads midnight it will be 3:00 in the afternoon.

I like it in the fall since we "fall" back an hour, but spring is hard since we "spring ahead" and lose time!

I live in one of the only province (state) which doesn't go to daylight saving time. Where I grew up, there was (and still is) daylight saving time.

No big deal as far as I am concerned. As long as they keep the same number of hours in the day.

I enjoy Daylight Savings as well. Gives a writer more time to write. :)

I grew up without time changing (I'm from Indiana, which used to not have DST), so I think it's kind of a silly practise. I love Daylight time; it's Standard time I can't stand. If we're only going to have four months of it, is it really 'standard'?

I would be happy to sign a petition to split the difference, spring forward 1/2 hour next month, and never change again. ;)

Well, I don't like losing an hour when we have to put the clocks forward... then again it's great gaining an hour when we put them back in the autumn! Honestly, I really don't care either way. I don't think things will change all that much if Daylight Savings gets taken away, and if it stays then that's great too!

Remember the double daylight saving time during the war, for us children it was wonderful.

Let's call it even. Let's go ahead half an hour and stop playing with the time after that.

I'm for keeping it. I like that marker twice a year: clocks forward, clocks back. It's become part of the year's "passage" marks, almost like its own season.
But, good for you that you made your own decision about it and didn't just go along to get along.
