Proud of my culture

I just finished reading a book that I will be reviewing here on my blog soon. The book is Watched, by Cindy Hogan. I really liked it. A lot. It makes me proud that another LDS author has been born.

For those of you who don't know, LDS stands for Latter Day Saint. Otherwise known as the Mormons. I make it a point not to post religious or even political opinions on my blog because I don't want to come across preachy in anyway. I want people of all faiths and factions to feel comfortable, safe, and welcome at my blog, but I do want to point out that the Mormon community of authors, my community, is blossoming.

One of the things I like about LDS authors is that 99% of the time, I can pick up any one of their books and I know I'll get a fast pace, exciting, clean story. I feel safe letting my kids read their books, knowing there won't be graphic sex or swearing.

Now, I'm not saying other authors out there don't write clean literature, I'm just focusing one this one special group today. For those of you who are interesting in knowing who these Mormon authors are, they are (in no particular order) . . .

Stephanie Meyer-The Twilight series and Host,    Aprilyne Pike- The Wings series,    Elana Johnson- Possession,    James Daschner- The Maze Runner Series, The Thirteenth Reality Seris,    Jeff Savage-FarWorld Series,    Obert Skye-Pillage Series and Leven Thumps series,    Brandon Mull- Fabelhavel Series,    Brandon Sanderson-many epic fantasies,    Jessica Day George-The Dragons Slipper series and Princess of the Midnight Ball series,    Dan Wells-I am not a Serial Killer Series,    Orson Scott Card-Ender's Game Series.

Need I say more?

And these are just a few who publish nationally! I can't name them all. I haven't even read all their books, but I'm trying.

There's a famous quote by Orson F. Whitney (An LDS leader from the past). "We shall yet have Miltons and Shakespears of our own."

And how true it is! Look for these great authors and their stories. You will feel richer for it.

That's why I believe in supporting eachother. The way I see it, the more of us out there writing good books, the better!

I am not LDS, but I have many friends who are, and I never discount the beliefs of others. Some of these great writers come as a complete surprise to me in regards to their faith. Thank you for pointing these authors out to me. I need to read more of their works in order to gain better insight into the soul of the writer through her/his works.
