This week I will perform surgery!

Nanowrimo was four months ago and I am finally able to admit that the story I wrote doesn't work. ARGG! It starts out as a ghost story and turns into some sort of fantasy. Both halves are great, but I don't love them together. Sigh.

I read a facebook post by Tristi Pinkston where she stated that out of 50,000 words, maybe half of her nanowrimo story worked. It wasn't until then that I finally accepted the same thing about my book. So much for letting my imagination run wild. It was super fun to participate in this contest, and I would do it again, but writing, writing, writing without plot planning can come back to bite you in the tush.

This week I will start the surgery I know I must perform. As much as it hurts, the operation has to happen--cuts have to be made, stitches applied etc...

The moral of the story is this . . . . It's okay to write like a maniac, but be willing to hack that Frankenstein to pieces if necessary!

I hate it when this happens. BUT, sometimes it's for the best. I wrote a book two years ago, which will never see the light of day again, but I liked some of the scenes in it so much that I'm using them in my current WIP. So, I'm sort of dissecting my dead manuscript, keeping the good parts, and putting them in my new one.
That sounds like something out of a horror movie, and I don't even write horror! LOL

I say so long as you have the kernel of a story then hacking away will do this novel good!! Yay for you and good luck!!! Take care

That is an excellent picture :).

Is there any chance you can get two books out of this manuscript? They both sound intriguing.

Good luck, Melissa! And like Shannon said, maybe you can get two books out of it?

Thanks, guys and I will definitely use the plot in don't use for another story. It's good. I like it a lot, but just doesn't work for now.

Sage advice. Good luck on the surgery. :)

That would be good to get two book ideas out of the one. Good luck with that. Nano is definitly fun...but I wonder if we'd get just as much done writing slower and thoughtfully rather than all out and crazy--followed by months of edits.

You can do it, it's kind of fun to go crazy on your own work...even though it's hard to let some of it go. We learn from everything we write though, which is always a plus.
