What's in a name?

Good grief! It's already Wednesday? Where have the days gone? I'm amazed how quickly time flies the older I get. Oops. Did I say that? I'm not old. I'm only something something and will be something more in July!

This week I have been madly going over my second edit. I've been stumped about what I should call the good guys in my book. Kristine, my editor, didn't like the first name, which was the League. It was too much like the bad guy name, which was The Legion. She thought it might be confusing to the kids who read it. I agree. So I changed the good guys to The Brotherhood. She doesn't love that one either and I'm not sure I do. It's almost too different then Legion. Arggg!

So, this week I came up with The Guild. What do you think? It has to be a name that online gamers would "get." You know? I've thought of quite of few names, but I would like your input. How about this. If someone comes up with a better name than The Guild, and I use it, You'll get a free copy of the book when it comes out!

ALSO--you have to become a follower to qualify! I love my followers and want to see that number grow. Of course, I want you to follow because I'm a fabulous writer too. =)
Good luck and get your thinking caps on!

I like the name "Guild". League makes me think of "The League fo Extraordinary Gentlemen" which was a bad movie. I'm glad you changed it!

OK talking to my brothers (who are gamers)and they came up with The Elect, The Unit or The Band dose it have to be The something or could it be like Band of the Elect?

I talked to My brothers (who are gamers) and they suggested something like The Elect The Unit or The Band, Or you could shake it up a bit and call them The Band of the Elect, and call them BOE for short.

Those are great ideas, Schyla!

Okay... trying to make sure it sounds cool but at the same time that it is easy to pronounce, what with it being YA and all.
So. With that being said...

Terra Dolus. Latin, roughly translated to mean Group Guild. Sort of a conundrum, but it sounds cool. Otherwise, Frater Dolus which would be Brother Guild.

Otherwise, The Collective, The Syndicate. Those are good options. Good luck!

I like those too, Caledonia. My editor was worried that Guild sounded too ladyish. You know, as in a ladies guild, but she's not a gamer. I told her gamers would get the name Guild if we chose to keep it.

Wow, I have no idea if my comment even went through.

So I will just re-post on the off-chance it didn't go through.

Terra Dolus (roughly translated from Latin: Group Guild)
Frater Dolus (Brother Guild)

Otherwise The Collective or even The Syndicate. (Syndicate has been used a lot though.) A good latin term for Collective is Colligo.

I'll stop now, I tend to get carried away with naming things. ;)

Oh yes. I understand Guild very well. :D I use them in my fantasy.
Not to mention on World of Warcraft, all of our gnomes... we're called Travelocity. XD

I like "Guild". It sounds strong. Thank you for visiting my blog. I will be back to read more of your posts.
Thanks!

I remember those two names!
I'm trying to remember how your antagonists and protagonists were like so that I can help tailor a good name for each. :(
If you could email me with a brief description, I can sick my imagination on them!

I just played around with both terms on the Microsoft Word. I love The Guild. Let us know what you decide to use and what your editor thinks!
