Good bye, old friend

I haven't been around for a bit. I haven't even gotten on to read blogs. Some of you may know that my old dog, Duke died a couple of weeks ago. I've been letting myself mourn, not caring how much I wrote or was on the computer "working."

At first, I cried all the time. We've had Duke for thirteen years. We got him when my first child was only eighteen months old. Everyone told me I was crazy getting a dog when I already had a young baby, but I've never regretted it. He was the best thing we ever bought.

I have so many memories of that big, old, lion of a dog. He was so gentle, so fun. I just wanted to let you all know so you understand why I've been neglecting the computer. I'm still not ready to come back full bore. It might seem to some of you that my heartache is unnecessary. He was just a dog, after all. To you I say, "You just don't get it and are the sorrier for it."

To the rest of you. I know you understand. These harry children never stay long enough, but they leave an unfillable void when they go.

God speed, Duke, and I hope to see your beautiful, golden face again.

Oh Melissa J Cunningham!

I am so so so sorry to hear about Duke's passing. I am truly sorry. I lost my beloved kitty in March this year and I know how it feels, I understand the pain and the grief and the void.

I'm glad you have wonderful memories of this beautiful dog.

And thank you for sharing pics of your wonderful hubby and children here too.

take care
x

Oh, dogs are like family. I've come to love them, after earlier years when I was afraid of them (thanks to my mother's fears). I've recently put up several posts featuring dogs/cats of my children. I would feel as sad as they if one of the animals died.

You and your family will indeed miss Duke, but you do have those wonderful memories.

I loved that dog.

As well as his masters.

Comfort may you find.

I'm so sorry for your loss - I'm terrified of the days my furbabies pass on. I swear they're still puppies/kittens!

Heaven won't be heaven unless our pets are there or at least we can visit them ( well maybe just visit the really stinky ones, ie: guinea pigs). I'm hoping to see all sorts of critters again.

sorry for your loss! hope you had enough time to mourn and have given yourself all the time you truly need to get back into the writing again. It is hard to lose those you love.
Just remember the good times :)
